Cody Ray

Seattle-based artist

Bitten by the art bug in a Texas kindergarten class, it took a few decades for the symptoms to fully present.

My work explores themes of memory, connection, and the human body. I approach art as a delicate and messy exploration. It’s part intuitive, part intentional. Part real, part dream. I seek the ideal moment where realism meets abstraction to bring out emotions I can’t explain.

I embrace a number of different materials: oil, acrylic, charcoal, pastels, clay, and whatever else I can get my hands on.

What I love about making art is that it has little utility, but it’s also the most important thing in the world. What an amazing contradiction.
